First of all: What a weird name, right? Anyway, pantsers are authors that use their inspiration or creativity to write a book with little to no planning at all. They just sit down – on their pants (hence the name) – and craft their story as it comes to their mind.
Pantsers are also known as discovery writers, because they quite literally discover their novel as they write it. They often don’t now ahead of time what the next scene will look like. In extreme cases, all they know is the genre of their book. But that’s enough for a pantser to sit down and let creativity dictate the story.
Believe it or not – it works! Pantsers can write entire book series without knowing what’s coming next.
Fun fact: Pantsers are often just as surprised by plot twists as their readers are.
